Feinberg School of Medicine
130,000 SF remodel and demolition of 14 medical research laboratories located on various floors of Northwestern’s Searle, Ward and Tarry buildings.

Consisted of the demolition of existing labs, including the removal of all architectural finishes, laboratory casework, as well as mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The renovated spaces included all new wet labs, (including movable laboratory casework to allow reconfiguration of the spaces in the future), offices, work alcoves and interaction rooms. Also included were all new MEP systems as well as the addition of 4 new air handling units.

Project planning, scheduling and coordination were significant on these complex projects. Construction took place while all buildings were occupied which required extensive coordination of mechanical systems in order to maintain fully functional buildings and avoid disturbances to any adjacent research laboratories. The age of the buildings work in ranged from 25 years old to 90 years old.
